At least 30% of enterprises operating in the field of production, business and services using codes and barcodes in Vietnam have a traceability system that applies national and international standards, ensuring the ability to interoperability and data exchange with domestic and international enterprise traceability systems.

Currently, the problem of counterfeit goods, counterfeit goods, goods circulated of unknown origin, products containing banned or toxic substances still exist, negatively affecting the health and finance of consumers, causing harm to consumers. reducing consumer confidence in the transparency of the goods market, reducing the reputation of genuine manufacturers and traders, etc. Seek an origin has become a matter of global concern. “Seek an origin” plays a very important role in production and business activities of enterprises in particular and socio-economic development in general. “Seek an origin” is an opportunity for businesses to penetrate into the global value chain, and at the same time is an active measure in the fight against counterfeiting, improving the position of products and goods. Through the “Seek an origin” system, consumers can easily access information sources related to products and goods through mobile devices (smart phones). “Seek an origin” is a tool for management agencies to control information on products produced and circulated on the market, helping to accurately and promptly identify the cause when quality problems occur, as well as the roles and responsibilities. responsibilities of the parties involved.

However, in Vietnam, there are some limitations and inadequacies, specifically: “Seek an origin” has only been applied in a few products and some large localities and markets: Many current “Seek an origin” systems still carry closed, unable to open so that the parties to this “Seek an origin” system can join with other “Seek an origin” systems, due to often using self-configured structured identifiers, only valid in internally scoped, without using globally unique identifiers. Self-setting of identifiers (products, locations, parties) is not unique, there may be cases of code duplication between “Seek an origin” systems. “Seek an origin” requires high standardization, requires the parties participating in “Seek an origin” to agree to use common standards. However, the practice of small and fragmented production causes limitations for the agreement between the parties involved in the “Seek an origin” . Working habits and sense of non-compliance with the process, being afraid to take notes are also factors that limit the success of Vietnamese enterprises when building a “Seek an origin” system.

According to Mr. Bui Huu Dao, Vice President of the Vietnam Barcode Association, barcodes in traceability are an effective tool to improve competition and position of businesses in the market, helping businesses easily manage products, distribute goods on the supermarket system, ensure prestige for consumers. At the same time, this is the identity for goods to integrate into the world. The application of barcodes in the supply chain reduces raw material investment by 50%, increases quotation accuracy by 3.5%, reduces inventory time by 21%, reduces distribution costs by 42%, 35% reduction in inventory in the distribution center, 32% reduction in out of stock, bringing satisfaction to customers.

According to experts, it is necessary to widely use barcode technology in essential areas of life, thereby increasing the number of businesses using barcodes, helping to increase the speed of goods handling and efficiency in business.

source: vista.gov.vn

On August 4, 2020, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Barcode Code Association in collaboration with the General Department of Standards, Metrology and Quality and the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations held a seminar on “Application of code codes and codes”. lines in traceability and anti-counterfeiting”.
