Workshop on “Exploiting Databases on Science and Technology Information Networks”

On October 4, 2019, the Workshop “Exploiting Databases on Science and Technology Information Networks” took place at the Science & Technology Information Center of Can Tho City, attracting a lot of attention from the Departments, departments in the city. Can Tho; Universities and Colleges; Information Center – Library and nearby businesses.

The topic of the seminar revolved around the issues of strengthening the capacity to exploit and effectively use S&T information; and at the same time update the trends in the development of science and technology information sources to meet the needs of scientific research, technological development and innovation.

The conference took place with 5 presentations and reports:

Ms. Le Nguyen Trung Khanh – Deputy Director of Science and Technology Information Center of Ho Chi Minh City. Can Tho presented on “Connecting and exploiting databases from the CASTI science and technology information network”. The report focuses on introducing the database resources, existing facilities of CASTI and the sharing and connection of resources and databases of information centers in the Mekong Delta region.
Ms. Bui Thanh Bang – Director of the Center for Information and Statistics of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City gave a presentation on “Introduction to the Ho Chi Minh City Science and Technology Information Network” – STINET. This is a network to link science and technology information resources in Ho Chi Minh City organized under the Project on linking scientific and technological information resources approved by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. In it, she shared about how to deploy, build and the advantages and difficulties in the implementation process, leading to the result that STINET has been launched since March 2019, with the participation of 30 people. unit.
From Information and Digital Technology Joint Stock Company, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duy had a presentation with the topic “Exploiting and creating solutions for scientific and technological data sources”. The report addresses two issues: exploiting electronic databases to provide relevant content on S&T and digital technologies to create endogenous data sources.
Representative of the Representative Office of the National Office of Intellectual Property in Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang gave an introduction about “Data platform and information services for industrial property”. The presentation introduced to attendees a number of industrial property databases and how to look up industrial property information on IP Lib – The Industrial Property Digital Library of the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam.
Representative of Huong Viet Group Joint Stock Company, Mr. Nguyen Nhat Thien presented an overview of knowledge education, CLS.Share Knowledge exchange and EDM digitization solution. The report mainly introduces attendees to an overview and features and deployment benefits of the products mentioned above.
The seminar program ended with interest and enthusiastic discussion from the participating units. Mr. Dinh Hung Anh – Ca Mau Science and Technology Information and Application Center shared his desire to join and connect to the S&T network in the Mekong Delta region organized by CASTI and should have many similar seminars to discuss and exchange information. In addition, the units are also interested in the direction of database investment such as the OECD, etc. and the plan to digitize the agency’s endogenous sources of documents, the sharing of this digital data source must ensure copyright and the Law. library.

Information and Digital Technology Joint Stock Company was honored to attend and present at the conference with 2 main issues:

  • Introduction to some databases issued by NGOs such as OECD iLibrary, Worldbank eLibrary, UN iLibrary, ITU iLibrary, etc. These database sources provide research, statistics, analysis, .. or regularly updated internal documents and publications of organizations in many fields and countries, including Vietnam.
  • Introduction of document digitization solutions with scanner technologies for document digitization of agencies, information centers, libraries, etc., including: flatbed scanner, ADF scanner, scanner overhead, microfilm scanners, automated (robotic) and specialized (multi-feature) scanners. In addition, IDT also displayed the CZUR ET16 Plus scanner line – an intelligent overhead scanner, to introduce to the participating units with an intuitive view and direct experience of the product.
