Successfully fabricated SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic test products

On the afternoon of June 11, 2020, the Scientific Council conducted the acceptance test of the topic “Manufacturing and evaluating artificial positive controls and primers to diagnose the causative agent of acute respiratory infections caused by new strains of Corona virus”.

The topic is chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Trong Lan, Dr. BS Hoang Quoc Cuong, chaired by Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City. The study was conducted for 3 months (from March to June) at Phu Sa Company, Can Tho Center for Application of Advances in Science and Technology and Pasteur Institute. The committee evaluates the topic as excellent. Accordingly, the positive control has been successfully researched and produced. For primers, the study was successfully synthesized according to the procedure recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). In terms of product quality, the primers in the study have similar sensitivity and reliability to diagnostic biological products on the market for SARS-CoV-2 screening in the laboratory.

Delegates visited and heard about the SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic testing process on genetic material.

The evaluation and evaluation results show that the positive controls and primers are fully qualified for production and use on a large scale to contribute to the fight against COVID-19 and reduce the burden on the national budget. The project produced 12,500 positive controls and 12,500 reactions used to diagnose SARS-CoV-2, published 1 international paper. Because of the urgency of the epidemic, the topic has not evaluated the shelf life of biological products.

From the research results, the project leader recommends: using positive controls in diagnosing SARS-CoV-2 aims to increase the accuracy of tests, avoid missing false positives and avoid errors in false-positive cases… and optimizing test performance in the context of a lack of chemicals and biologicals to diagnose SARS-CoV-2. At the same time, continue to research and manufacture diagnostic biological products on the RdRp gene to support the definitive diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2, evaluate the shelf life of biological products and optimize storage conditions.
