Scientific Seminar: “Application of Technology to Ensure Security and Safety in Life and Production”

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is one of the global goals to achieve the objective of keeping the Earth’s temperature from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial times by 2030. At the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính announced the commitment for “Vietnam to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.” One of the major sources of emissions comes from business activities. Therefore, to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2050, the business community plays a crucial role. The premise for helping businesses mitigate emissions is greenhouse gas inventorying. By calculating emissions and identifying sources of emissions, businesses can make reasonable adjustments in their production processes to reduce emissions, transition to green practices, and move toward sustainable production.

As part of a series of activities celebrating Vietnam’s Science and Technology Day on May 18, the Can Tho Center for the Application of Scientific and Technological Advancements organized a scientific seminar on May 24, 2024, with the theme “Greenhouse Gas Inventory in Enterprises Toward Net Zero Carbon.” The seminar aimed to share information on greenhouse gas emissions, carbon taxes, and propose solutions for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in enterprises. It also aimed to build cooperative relationships between the Can Tho Center for the Application of Scientific and Technological Advancements and partners in conducting training, consultancy on inventorying, and preparing greenhouse gas inventory reports.

The seminar attracted significant interest and participation from leaders and delegates from departments and agencies in Can Tho City; experts, lecturers, and students from institutes and universities in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta; as well as representatives from organizations and businesses in Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta region.

The topic “Greenhouse Gas Inventory in Enterprises Toward Net Zero Carbon” was elaborated on and disseminated through reports presented at the seminar, including: “Reducing Greenhouse Gases and Carbon Tax – Challenges and Solutions for Businesses”; “Legal Documents Related to Greenhouse Gas Inventory & ISO 14064 Standards”; “Methods for Preparing Greenhouse Gas Inventory Reports”; and “Regulations for Validating Greenhouse Gas Inventory Reports.” Furthermore, this event marked the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Can Tho Center for the Application of Scientific and Technological Advancements and the Ho Chi Minh City Center for the Application of Scientific and Technological Advancements in the near future.
