On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, on the morning of February 1, 2024, the Party Committee, People’s Council, and People’s Committee of Cần Thơ City organized a meeting to honor the city’s outstanding scientists and intellectuals for the Year of the Dragon 2024.
This event provided an opportunity to express the city’s leadership’s gratitude and appreciation toward distinguished scientists and intellectuals. It recognized the contributions of these individuals who have made significant and effective contributions to the socio-economic development, national defense, and security of the city. The event also aimed to motivate and encourage intellectuals and scientists to continue uniting and promoting their creative intellect in building Cần Thơ into an “ecological, civilized, modern city with a distinctive cultural identity of the Mekong Delta’s river region, and a regional center for science and technology” in accordance with Resolution No. 59 issued by the Politburo on August 5, 2020. Additionally, the event provided an opportunity for the city’s leadership to seek input from scientists, research experts, businesses, and organizations supporting enterprises on solutions to enhance the application and development of science and technology, foster innovation, and improve labor productivity, as well as proposals and ideas for the city’s socio-economic development in 2024.
A special part of the meeting involved discussions and contributions from the distinguished guests on scientific and technological activities and the implementation of Resolution No. 45-NQ/TW, issued on November 24, 2023, by the Central Committee of the 13th Party Congress. This resolution focuses on continuing to build and promote the role of intellectuals in meeting the requirements of rapid and sustainable national development in the new era.

In addition to honoring outstanding scientists and intellectuals, the People’s Committee of Cần Thơ issued commendation decisions for groups and individuals who have made significant and effective contributions to the city’s socio-economic development, national defense, and security, helping to build a prosperous and civilized Cần Thơ.
The event concluded with New Year’s greetings for the Year of the Dragon 2024 from Mr. Trần Việt Trường, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Cần Thơ, to the city’s distinguished scientists and intellectuals.
