On the morning of March 26, 2024, the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City organized a selection council for the city-level science and technology project titled “Research on the Development of PCR Kits for Rapid Detection of Common Pathogens in Pangasius Catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) Based on SPOTCHECK PCR Technology.” The council was chaired by Dr. Ngo Anh Tin, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City. The project is led by the Center for Application of Science and Technology Progress in Can Tho, with Bachelor Nguyen Thi Hong Phuong as the project manager.
The project aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Develop procedures and manufacture kits for diagnosing pathogens Edwardsiella ictaluri and Aeromonas hydrophila in pond water, pond sludge, and Pangasius catfish using the PCR-SPOTCHECK method.
- Evaluate the sensitivity, specificity, and stability of the kit in laboratory settings, experimental farms, and field conditions during the Pangasius catfish farming process.
- Conduct pilot production trials to provide diagnostic tests for pathogens Edwardsiella ictaluri and Aeromonas hydrophila in the Pangasius catfish farming areas of Can Tho City.
The project is expected to be carried out over two years (2024 – 2026) with seven research components. The council highly appreciated the research content of the project and provided feedback on several aspects for the project management team to revise and improve the proposal.
