Scientific Seminar on “Developing International-Level Human Resources in Science, Technology, and Innovation Training in Can Tho City”

On the morning of July 19, 2024, in Can Tho City, the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized a scientific seminar titled “Developing International-Level Human Resources in Science, Technology, and Innovation Training in Can Tho City.”

Attending the seminar were Mr. Hoàng Minh – Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Nguyễn Ngọc Hè – Member of the City Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, along with delegates who are scientists and managers from institutes, representatives from various departments, and businesses operating in the field of science and technology (S&T) in Can Tho City, as well as delegates from S&T departments in the Mekong Delta and media agencies.

As of 2024, Can Tho City has 70 organizations engaged in S&T activities. Among them, there are 41 S&T organizations (13 research and development organizations; 15 higher education institutions, colleges; and 13 S&T service organizations), and 29 administrative agencies, non-business units, and enterprises involved in S&T activities. As of 2024, the total number of S&T personnel in Can Tho is 6,813, including 1,202 individuals with doctoral degrees and 2,859 with master’s degrees. Approximately 16,000 students graduate each year, with the University of Can Tho playing a prominent role in providing high-quality human resources to the labor market, supplying 9,307 undergraduate students and 1,295 master’s and doctoral graduates. Recently, the scientific, technological, and innovative human resources of Can Tho City, in particular, and the Mekong Delta region, in general, have made significant contributions to the overall development of the region.

During the seminar, delegates discussed various topics, including the demand of enterprises for international-level S&T and innovation human resources; the bottlenecks in high-quality human resources in the context of international integration in the Mekong Delta; and innovative solutions for cooperative training of high-quality human resources for sustainable development in the Mekong Delta.

As part of the seminar, the opening ceremony of an advanced training course on circuit design for lecturers was held, organized by the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City in collaboration with the University of Can Tho, Can Tho University of Technology, and Sun Edu International Education Joint Stock Company.
