On the afternoon of October 17, 2019, the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City had a working session and acceptance of the topic “Research on the process of cultivating sesame with Quang Van Khuong as the manager. The Mekong Delta Rice Institute is the lead agency.

Overview of the acceptance test.
The purpose of the project is to assess the current status and potential of sesame production in Can Tho city; building a model of sesame cultivation for higher efficiency than traditional sesame cultivation; transferring sesame cultivation techniques to farmers according to new technical processes.
The research team has carried out the contents of investigating and evaluating the potential and effectiveness of applying scientific and technical advances in sesame production in Can Tho; develop a process of temporary sesame cultivation on the basis of synthesizing and gathering relevant documents and research results across the country, especially in the Mekong River Delta; organizing a scientific workshop to give suggestions for the process of temporary sesame cultivation; model and calibrate the farming process.

Research group.
Over the period of implementation, the project has achieved some results in terms of training courses: The participating farmers have improved their knowledge and technology of sesame cultivation in the rice-bed system in the Mekong Delta, helping they improve production, use agricultural materials rationally, save costs, improve production efficiency and make positive contributions to crop restructuring as well as maintaining sustainable production. About the model of synchronous application of integrated farming technology: the model of synchronously applying integrated and improved farming methods such as tilling, trenching and mulching, reducing the amount of chemical nitrogen fertilizers and using drought-resistant sesame varieties not only bring high economic and technical efficiency, yield 16% higher; 29.1% higher profit compared to traditional farming methods of farmers. The profit of spring-summer sesame cultivation model is 11,904 million dong higher than spring-summer, equivalent to 189.7%. With the same farming techniques of farmers converting from spring-summer to spring-summer sesame, the profit increased by VND 19,238,000, equivalent to 245%. Front-end workshop: All assessments and discussions of farmers at 02 workshops help draw lessons learned about the effectiveness of the sesame farming model applying integrated farming methods, achieving higher results than conventional farming. according to the traditional experience of farmers; An effective measure to transfer “A package of integrated farming techniques in sesame production to synchronously apply fall and drop-resistant sesame varieties with technologies that save input costs and are friendly to the environment” is increase training and field training on integrated farming methods for farmers; Farmers can apply the package of advanced farming techniques, further promote the application of mechanization of sesame production with “2 farmers’ improvements” in tilling the land combined with irrigation, drainage and seeding. sesame by connecting 2 threshing machines to change the size of the floor mesh set inside the machine; The project has completed and transferred the technical process of sesame cultivation to apply integrated, cost-effective and environmentally friendly farming methods” to help farmers in the Mekong Delta quickly transform their structure. crops on intensive rice land are more efficient and sustainable.
The Council has agreed to accept the topic, but the research team needs to revise some content according to the suggestions of the members of the council.
