The Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances (Science and Technology) under the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho has successfully implemented the project: “Application of scientific and technological advances to build a model of high-quality flower production in Can Tho City”, contributing to the success of the project. Participating in creating specialized cultivation areas to produce high-quality flowers for the city and neighboring provinces/cities.
From the results of the city-level project
At present, the orchid growing industry is considered the right direction in the process of transforming crop structure, increasing economic efficiency on the production area in line with the urbanization of the city, making an important contribution. increase production value for the ornamental flower industry in general. To meet the large demand of the orchid market requires large, homogeneous and quality clones. However, there are few units capable of producing seeds by modern methods such as tissue culture in the area, lacking modern facilities for seed production. Facing that situation, the Center for Advanced Application of Science and Technology has been approved by the People’s Committee of Can Tho City to implement the project “Completing the orchid seed production system by tissue culture, hydroponics and aeroponics techniques”. The project has received and completed the propagation process of flowers: Cattleya, Dendrobium, Vanda and Mokara, Orchids by tissue culture technique; building and perfecting the orchid seed nursery system on the aeroponics system and the net house model of cutting orchids…, helping to form an area specializing in the production of orchid varieties with high technology application to serve the needs of development. to develop orchid farming, in order to create a premise for the development of plant biotechnology, to serve plant breeding and to promote tourism development.
Come produce high quality flowers
Following the achieved results, the Center for Application of Science and Technology Progress proposed and was assigned by the Ministry of Science and Technology to implement the project: “Application of science and technology advances to build a model of high-quality flower production in Can Tho City” belonging to the Ministry of Science and Technology. Program to support the application and transfer of science and technology advances to promote socio-economic development in rural, mountainous and ethnic minority areas in the 2016-2025 period (Rural and Mountainous Program).

Many high-quality flower varieties are being tested, bringing high economic efficiency to the people.
After 2 years of implementation, the project has received the technological processes of invitro (laboratory propagation), invivo (clonal propagation outside the laboratory) and commercial flower production in Vietnam. 3 objects: rose, gerbera, chrysanthemum; successfully built application models, including: 2 invitro propagation models with 10,000 gerbera plants and 200,000 chrysanthemums; 3 models of commercial flower production: gerbera with a scale of 2,000 m2, the number of 10,000 plants; chrysanthemum scale 5,000 m2, number of 200,000 plants; Heat-resistant roses scale 1,500 m2, the number of 10,000 plants. At the same time, trained 10 technicians specialized in invitro and invivo propagation technology to produce potted flowers on an industrial scale; organized 3 training courses for 180 turns of farmers to master the techniques of producing high quality commercial flowers.

The project was accepted and accepted with successful results.
